What Are Veneers?

As the name suggests, veneers are designed to cover up the front of each tooth. They are thin, tooth-shaped dental prostheses that fit perfectly over your existing tooth structure, and are bonded in place to permanently correct cosmetic issues like staining, gaps, and misshapen or chipped teeth.

‍Veneer placement typically takes only 2 appointments over about 2-3 weeks. After Dr. Brown determines that veneers are right for you, you’ll come in for an appointment at Boise Dental Arts. Your mouth will be numbed, and your teeth will be prepared for veneers by removing a thin layer of enamel to ensure a comfortable, seamless fit. Next, dental impressions will be taken and sent to the lab, where your veneers will be made. You’ll be sent home with a temporary set of veneers, and you’ll come back in 2-3 weeks when your permanent veneers arrive.

At your next appointment, Dr. Brown will check the veneers to make sure they look good and fit perfectly, and then he will bond them into place with dental cement. Your new teeth will then be polished and buffed, completing the procedure.

The process of veneer treatment is also minimally-invasive, and only takes a few weeks, so you can get results quickly, and enjoy your new smile for years to come. You can expect your new smile to last 10-15 years or longer with proper oral hygiene and care.

Porcelain Veneers Vs. Lumineers: What Is The Difference?

The end results of veneers and Lumineers are quite similar, but the main difference is that Lumineers use a special type of incredibly strong porcelain that is only about as thick as a contact lens. This means that patients who opt for Lumineers often don’t need to have their enamel removed to ensure a proper fit. If you are interested in veneers but don’t like the idea of permanently removing your enamel, Lumineers may be a good option.
