Answers That Will Restore Your Smile

What Are Composite Dental Fillings?

At Boise Dental Arts, we can treat your cavities with composite dental fillings. By removing the decayed material and filling your tooth with a resin-based material, we ensure that the cavity doesn’t get worse and that your smile remains beautiful.

We prefer composite dental fillings over silver-amalgam fillings for a few reasons, but the most important reason is cosmetic. While traditional amalgam fillings have a grayish color, composite fillings can be matched to the color of your teeth. This means that you can have your tooth filled and it will still match the rest of your smile, keeping your teeth looking bright and beautiful. Cavities are the single most common oral health issue in both children and adults in America. While proper dental care and oral hygiene can prevent most cavities, nobody is ever completely safe from tooth decay, which is why regular six-month teeth cleanings are essential for catching cavities early.

What Can I Expect During Root Canal Therapy?

Root canal therapy is the best way to restore and protect a tooth that is infected. Tooth infections usually occur because of severe decay, which breaches the hard enamel and dentin of the tooth, exposing the vulnerable, nerve and blood vessel-filled “pulp.” When the pulp becomes infected, the tooth may begin to ache and the area around it will become inflamed. Eventually, the infection will kill your tooth, at which point, an extraction may be recommended. To prevent this, a root canal is necessary. During the root canal process, a small hole is made in the tooth, and then the inside is cleaned and disinfected to destroy the infection. Then, the tooth is filled with a rubbery material and the opening is covered with a filling and possibly a temporary crown. If a crown is necessary, you will need to come back in for a permanent crown in a few weeks. At our office, Dr. Jeremy Brown can perform root canals on both anterior (front) teeth and on molars.

What Are Lab-Made Dental Crowns?

At our Boise dental office, we work with top dental labs to provide you with beautiful, functional crowns that will keep your smile looking great. Lab-made dental crowns are precisely made to ensure a seamless fit in your smile.

Dental crowns are a good option for patients who are suffering from major tooth decay, or have a damaged tooth due to oral trauma, such as a slip and fall. Crowns are designed to cover up and protect all of your remaining tooth structure and restore the natural function and appearance of your smile.
